Cambodia and Cuba Move to Boost Tourism with FAM Trips, Planned MoU
PHNOM PENH, Feb 6, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Cuba agreed Thursday to advance tourism cooperation through reciprocal familiarization trips (FAM Trips) and a planned Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between their tourism ministries.
Tourism Minister Huot Hak met Cuban Ambassador Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra in Phnom Penh, noting the two countries have maintained diplomatic ties since 1960, marking 66 years in 2026. Hak described tourism as “Green Gold” and a priority pillar of Cambodia’s economy.

Zaldívar Piedra said Cuba wanted to translate longstanding diplomacy into concrete collaboration, proposing FAM Trips to allow tour operators and media from both sides to experience destinations firsthand.
She also suggested signing an MoU during an upcoming international tourism exhibition in Cuba and sought support for meetings between a Cuban tourism delegation and Cambodian associations.
Hak welcomed the proposals, calling them practical steps to strengthen destination promotion, industry linkages and institutional cooperation.
Officials said the initiatives aim to boost two-way visitor flows, raise visibility of each country’s tourism offerings and deepen ties between tourism authorities and private-sector stakeholders.
