Cambodia Strengthens Economic Diplomacy with Canada
TORONTO, Cananda (Oct. 29, 2025) —Cambodia’s deputy prime minister and first vice chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Sun Chanthol, led a delegation to Canada this week to promote investment and trade opportunities.
During the visit, Chanthol met with Victor Fedeli, Ontario’s minister of economic development, job creation and trade, for a courtesy meeting and working discussion.
Senior officials from Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Cambodian Oknha Association, and the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ontario also attended.
The talks focused on strengthening and expanding economic, trade and investment relations between Cambodia and Ontario, one of Canada’s most industrially advanced provinces.
Both sides explored cooperation in technology transfer and human resource development, particularly in the digital economy, agro-industry and clean technology — areas aligned with Cambodia’s vision for a digital and green economy.
Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s appeal as an emerging investment destination for Canadian businesses, citing favorable investment laws, strategic incentives and growth sectors such as infrastructure, agro-processing and clean energy — fields that also reflect Ontario’s economic strengths.
Fedeli expressed Ontario’s commitment to deepening bilateral trade and investment ties, acknowledged Cambodia’s economic potential and said he intends to make an official visit to Cambodia in the near future.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration to enhance trade and investment flows between Cambodia and Canada.
Cambodia exported $22.39 billion worth of goods in the first nine months of 2025, up 12.9% from the same period last year. Canada ranked among the top five export destinations, alongside the U.S., Vietnam, China and Japan.
