PHNOM PENH, Feb 24, 2026 (KPT) – King Norodom Sihamoni has issued a message marking the 27th National Mine Awareness Day, warning of the continuing risks posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance across Cambodia.

The King paid homage to the two Supreme Patriarchs and monks, and extended respect to citizens observing the day under the theme: “Everyone Participates for the Safety of Survivors and Communities.”

National Mine Awareness Day, designated by the government on February 24, serves as a reminder of the legacy of decades of conflict. Landmines and explosive remnants of war have destroyed infrastructure, impeded development and caused tens of thousands of casualties.

His Majesty noted that recent armed incursions along the Cambodia–Thailand border have added to the risks, with unexploded bombs and grenades scattered in local communities.

He expressed gratitude to the Royal Government and the Mine Action Center for clearance efforts, awareness campaigns and support for affected families.

The King called on friendly governments, international organizations and philanthropists to continue supporting mine clearance and assistance programs, concluding with blessings for all Cambodians.
