PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 1, 2025) — King Norodom Sihamoni will travel to Paris this week to attend a meeting at the Academy of Sciences, the Royal Palace announced.

The visit, scheduled for Dec. 1–6, underscores the monarch’s efforts to strengthen Cambodia’s cultural, scientific and diplomatic ties with international institutions.
During the King’s absence, National Assembly President Hun Sen will act on his behalf, with the Deputy Head of State also assuming responsibilities.

Founded in 1666 under the patronage of Louis XIV, the Académie des Sciences is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious scientific institutions. It regularly hosts global leaders, scholars and scientists to advance collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Cambodia’s mission said the King’s participation carries symbolic and substantive weight, signaling respect for science and opening channels for diplomacy beyond politics and economics.

Officials noted the visit could foster cooperation with French and European institutions in education, research, development, environment and health. The meeting also highlights the role of science in Cambodia’s national development plans, encouraging evidence-based policy and positioning the country to engage in global discourse on challenges from climate change to ethics.
