Cambodia Joins AIPA Summit with Bold Push for Regional Unity and Sustainable Growth

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Sept.18, 2025) — A high-level delegation from Cambodia’s National Assembly attended the opening ceremony of the 46th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) on Wednesday, hosted by the Malaysian Parliament.

The event was held under the patronage of Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, president of Malaysia’s Senate; Tan Sri Dato’ Johari Bin Abdul, speaker of the House of Representatives and current AIPA president; and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim.

This year’s assembly is themed “Parliamentary Cooperation for Sustainable Growth and a Resilient ASEAN,” reflecting regional goals for inclusive development and environmental sustainability.

More than 900 delegates are attending, including parliamentary leaders from ASEAN member states, observer countries, and dialogue partners.

“AIPA plays an indispensable role in advancing ASEAN unity and prosperity,” Johari said in his opening remarks. “Its work aligns closely with the 46th ASEAN Summit’s theme of sustainability and resilience.”

Malaysian leaders praised the gathering as a symbol of regional solidarity and a platform for sharing policy visions and strengthening parliamentary diplomacy.
Following the ceremony, the first plenary session began, with Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary scheduled to deliver her official address to the assembly.
