Cambodia, Singapore Leaders Discuss Trade, Defence and Investment Ties at ASEAN Summit

LAPU LAPU CITY, Cebu, May 8, 2026 (KPT) —Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, defence and investment during talks on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit, officials said Friday.
Wong praised the long standing ties between the two countries and said the meeting reflected their shared commitment to expand cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed recent progress, including the entry into force of the Second Protocol amending the agreement on avoidance of double taxation, which he said would help attract more Singaporean investment.
He also highlighted the signing of a memorandum of cooperation on food security and expressed optimism about broadening partnerships across multiple sectors, including private sector engagement.

The Cambodian leader informed Wong that compulsory military service would begin in 2026 and voiced hope that Singapore would share its experience to support the process.
Both leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in energy, defence and security, and exchanged views on regional and international issues within ASEAN and wider global frameworks.
