Government Spokesman Underscores Cambodia’s Efforts to Protect Borders

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia says visits by diplomats, foreign military officials and journalists to disputed border areas highlight its diplomatic efforts to safeguard territory while seeking a peaceful resolution with Thailand.
Government spokesman Pen Bona told reporters Thursday that ambassadors, representatives of international organisations, ASEAN observers, military attachés and media had been invited to inspect areas Cambodia says are illegally occupied by Thai forces.
He said the visits demonstrate Cambodia’s commitment to protecting its borders and citizens while pursuing dialogue.
“This is not merely rhetoric but a clear commitment demonstrated through concrete actions,” Bona said, echoing earlier remarks by Prime Minister Hun Manet.
On March 4, the Ministry of National Defense facilitated a visit by military attachés from 12 countries, who inspected homes and infrastructure damaged in fighting,
as well as sites where Cambodian officials say Thai troops installed barbed wire and containers despite a ceasefire in place since December.
Cambodia insists the boundary should remain as defined by the Franco-Siamese Commission, citing historical treaties, maps and international law.
