Cambodia’s Prak Sokhonn to attend trilateral border talks with Thailand, China

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec.27,2025) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn will lead a delegation to a trilateral meeting with Thailand and China to discuss recent developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

The meeting is scheduled for Dec. 28-29 in Yunnan province, China, at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Cambodia said the talks aim to facilitate candid and constructive exchanges, build mutual confidence, promote de-escalation, and restore peace and stability along the border. Officials expressed appreciation for China’s role as host, providing a platform to support dialogue and regional stability.

On the sidelines, Prak Sokhonn is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Wang Yi to strengthen cooperation between Cambodia and China, with the goal of contributing to peace, security, stability and development in the region and globally.

Cambodia emphasized its commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means, dialogue and diplomacy, in accordance with international law, the U.N. Charter and the ASEAN Charter.

The trilateral talks follow the third Special General Border Committee meeting held Dec. 27 at the Prum-Ban Pak Kard International Point of Entry between Cambodia’s Pailin province and Thailand’s Chanthaburi province.

That meeting was co-chaired by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Tea Seiha and Thailand’s Defense Minister Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanit, with representatives from the ASEAN Observer Team attending as observers.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate cease-fire along their shared border, to take effect at noon local time Dec. 27 and last 72 hours. Thailand also agreed to return 18 Cambodian soldiers in line with the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed Oct. 26.
