Cambodia Showcases Investment Opportunities to Japanese Businesses in Tokyo

TOKYO, June 10, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia stepped up efforts to attract Japanese investment by highlighting business opportunities and strengthening partnerships during a high‑level roundtable in Tokyo, officials said Tuesday.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), led the delegation at the Cambodia–Japan High‑Level Business Roundtable under the theme “Toward Strategic Investment and Partnership.” The event was jointly organized by the CDC, the ASEAN‑Japan Centre and the Japan External Trade Organization.

Executives from 11 major Japanese companies joined discussions on market entry, long‑term strategies, priority sectors and expansion prospects. The CDC provided tailored information on Cambodia’s investment environment and pledged dedicated support services to accelerate projects.

Officials said the roundtable also offered direct networking and opportunities for joint ventures, reflecting Phnom Penh’s push to deepen ties with one of its key partners.

Cambodia’s bilateral trade with Japan reached $2.53 billion in 2025, up 17 percent year‑on‑year, with exports valued at $1.57 billion and imports at $956 million, leaving a surplus of about $620 million in Cambodia’s favour, according to Kampuchea Thmey English.

Chanthol is scheduled to deliver a keynote at the Cambodia Investment Forum 2026 in Osaka on June 12, expected to draw 30–50 Japanese firms for further talks on trade and industrial cooperation.
