Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s China Visit Reflects Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Ties, Spokesman Says

PHNOM PENH, June 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian government spokesman Pen Bona said Thursday that Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official visit to China reflects the determination of both countries to deepen their longstanding relationship and expand strategic cooperation.
Bona said the three‑day trip underscored the resolve of Phnom Penh and Beijing to advance what both governments describe as an “ironclad friendship” and build a closer partnership in the years ahead.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who also leads the Cambodian People’s Party, departed June 25 at the invitation of the Communist Party of China, heading a high‑level delegation that includes CPP vice‑president Tea Banh and senior figures from Cambodia’s legislature and executive.
During the visit, Samdech Techo is scheduled to hold talks with President Xi Jinping and meet separately with Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
The meetings are expected to focus on bilateral relations and cooperation across multiple sectors.
Bona said the trip formed part of Cambodia’s broader diplomatic engagement with international partners and was aimed at promoting national interests and the welfare of the Cambodian people.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen is also expected to pay his respects to King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in Beijing.
China remains one of Cambodia’s closest allies and a major source of trade, investment and development assistance, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, commerce and people‑to‑people exchanges.
