Cambodia Reaffirms ASEAN Innovation Commitment at Regional Meeting

VIENTIANE, June 24, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional cooperation in science, technology and innovation during the 89th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) in Vientiane, officials said Wednesday.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Dr. Hul Seingheng, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and national representative to COSTI. The meeting gathered ASEAN member states to review progress on regional projects and set priorities for the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation (APASTI) 2026–2036.

The 10‑year plan aims to strengthen innovation ecosystems, promote research and development, enhance human capital and accelerate adoption of emerging technologies. Delegates also discussed expanding cooperation with international partners to support research, technology transfer and capacity‑building.

Cambodia stressed the importance of science and technology as drivers of economic growth and social development, highlighting innovation’s role in boosting competitiveness and resilience. The delegation voiced support for ASEAN’s push to build an innovation‑driven community through greater investment in research, talent development and technological advancement.

The meeting underscored ASEAN’s shared commitment to building a knowledge‑based economy and preparing for future challenges in a technology‑driven world. Cambodia reiterated its determination to contribute to APASTI’s implementation and to leverage science, technology and innovation as catalysts for sustainable and inclusive development across the region.
