Cambodia reiterates ceasefire stance, highlights PM’s diplomacy

PHNOM PENH, Feb 26, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to a ceasefire with Thailand and vowed to resolve border tensions peacefully, government spokesman Pen Bona said Wednesday.

At his daily briefing, Bona stressed adherence to the December 27 joint statement and earlier accords, saying peace and respect for international law remain central to Phnom Penh’s position.

He cited the Franco-Siamese Boundary Commission and related treaties as the basis for demarcation, rejecting any attempt to alter borders by force.

The remarks came as Prime Minister Hun Manet’s recent diplomatic outreach was outlined. In Washington on February 19, he attended a peace board meeting at the invitation of US President Donald Trump and met leaders from Hungary, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as senior US officials.

Talks focused on bilateral ties and regional security, particularly the Cambodia–Thailand frontier.

Hun Manet also gave interviews to Reuters, Fox News and AFP, reiterating Cambodia’s stance that disputes must be settled peacefully and without infringing on sovereignty.

In Europe, he met UN and EU officials to brief them on border developments, while Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn addressed the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, warning of the impact on civilians.

Officials said the diplomatic push aimed to clarify Cambodia’s position and reinforce its commitment to negotiation and international law.
