PHNOM PENH, Jan 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its internationally recognized frontier with Thailand, warning that any attempt to alter the boundary by force will not be accepted.

Government spokesman Pen Bona told reporters the kingdom’s position rests on historical treaties and boundary commissions, including Franco Siamese and Indo Chinese Siamese agreements, as well as maps and markers mutually recognized by both sides.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia does not recognize any changes to the boundary line resulting from the use of force,” Bona said.

He added that Cambodia’s stance is consistent with international law and noted that Thailand has agreed to address border issues through established mechanisms, as outlined in a joint statement issued on December 27, 2025.

Calling for national solidarity, Bona said Cambodia has endured civil war, division and the Pol Pot genocide, and that current challenges cannot weaken its patriotic spirit.

He described the situation as a “hopeful step” toward a fair resolution of the dispute, stressing that Cambodia will continue to safeguard its territorial integrity peacefully under international law.
